Who we are and what we came here to DOU-LA:

Specializing in supporting high-risk and NICU mamas

MOMCares serves under-supported mothers with NICU experiences in Baltimore City by providing prenatal and postpartum doula care including transportation, advocacy, self-care opportunities, and nutritious meals to mothers and their families.

Our mission is to reverse the crisis of Black maternal health nationwide by providing life-saving services.

Who We Serve

MOMCares supports and uplifts, Black mothers during the birthing process.

Whether moms have high-risk births that end up with NICU involvement or simply need an advocate during the birthing journey, we care for our community by taking care of its mothers. We provide practical support for the birth and postpartum experience and advocate for our mothers in the medical arena.

Our Origin Story

“I’ve been a doula for the last 14 years. About seven years ago I began doula training to teach others. Right after I entered doula training I got pregnant. I experienced a loneliness, homelessness, and illnesses connected to stress during my pregnancy.

My son came three months early and had to be hospitalized for six months post-partum. When I got home I realized that I needed a lot of support that just wasn’t offered. There didn’t seem to be any specialized resources that were available to Black women. These experiences caused me to begin the Rising Mama brand, which services mothers and families in the Baltimore area.

From Rising Mama, I created MOMCares — an initiative to support moms even more with postpartum. It incorporates many of the things that I am am — an author, doula, yoga instructor, reiki master, and mom advocate. ”
